5 Child friendly holiday ideas in East Africa

Traveling with children is something so many people worry about. How do we keep them entertained? What will they do there? Is it safe? This is why we came up with this article, talking about the perfect 5 Child friendly holiday ideas in East Africa.

Traveling with kids may feel overwhelming but it actually is not as hard as you may imagine it to be. Kids can actually add more fun to your travels. Many people around the world do it, and you can, too!

While many places in Tanzania and Kenya are perfectly safe and ideal to travel with kids, we picked the best ones for you.

Here are our top 5 choices if you’re travelling with young kids. Pick the one that suits you best!

Tarangire National Park:

A small, yet popular choice for many is Tarangire National Park. This is because you can see so much in one day. A day trip to the park is enough to see all kinds of animals, birds and vegetation that a typical Tanzanian Safari can offer.

Tarangire National Park is situated in Northern Tanzania, not too far from the Kenyan borders. A short drive from Arusha Town, this park is great for kids!

A great idea would be to stay at one of the lodges just outside the park, where the children can enjoy swimming in a pool facing the vast plains, spotting animals pass by while in the pool! Adults can have a sundowner while admiring the same views.

Explore Stone Town Zanzibar:

Zanzibar is our favourite choice in Tanzania because kids love the beach! The beaches in Zanzibar are world-class. Kids can enjoy swimming in the clear blue ocean or spend the day in the pool.

Discovering the narrow streets of Stone Town can also be a great learning experience for kids. They can visit the museum and learn history, learn culture and art as well as appreciate old architecture.

Walking in Arusha National Park:

Arusha National Park is located in Arusha, Tanzania. We love Arusha National Park because you and your kids can actually go on a walking safari! How cool is that? Get up-close with giraffes like never before. You can go on a picnic lunch, canoeing, see the waterfalls and amazing wildlife.

The kids are sure to love it.

Nairobi National Park:

The only National Park in a city, Nairobi National Park is a must-see for those stopping by/transiting through Nairobi, Kenya.

Although you may not spot the Big Five here, it is the best place to spot the black rhino. You will also see wildebeest, zebra and gazelle, as well as lower concentrations of eland, giraffe and impala.

We choose this for kids because you only need a few hours of your day to visit the park, so the children don’t get too tired and cranky.

Beach holiday in Diani:

Diani beach is on the South Coast of Mombasa, Kenya. A quiet, yet full-of-life destination, Diani is great for those looking for less crowded beaches. Moreover, the beaches here are clean and have crystal clear waters. It is perfect for kids because of less crowds, more quiet time, plenty of space to play and enjoy. The hotels in Diani are also in a class of their own.

You can get to Diani through direct flights from Nairobi.
