Top destinations to spend Christmas in Tanzania

Christmas is indeed a special time of the year. We look forward to it all year, so we can spend quality time with family or just go away on holiday and do something exciting. The festive season of Christmas is largely celebrated in Tanzania, with feasts, parties and music. This does not mean you cannot find quiet and serene places. Many parts of the country are quiet, less populated and full of greenery. So, it’s really about what you prefer.

Zanzibar:

Zanzibar-Holiday

Zanzibar is extremely popular during Christmas and New Years Eve, mainly because it is a beach destination. If you want to party hard, Zanzibar is the place to be. Meet new people, enjoy beach parties and indulge in the freshest and most delicious sea food ever. If you want a quieter evening, you can spend your time watching the sunset and later star gazing on the beach, with a drink in your hand. Sounds perfect doesn’t it? It would be a good idea to book your accommodation in advance. Do your research on different parts of the coast- Stone Town tends to be busier with lots more people and activities; whereas other areas like the North (Nungwi) , East are far much quieter. Mount Kilimanjaro

If you ask us, nothing compares to spending the festive season on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is a completely unique experience, and this will be etched in your memory for years and years to come. Imagine your New Year Day 2022 at Uhuru Peak. Incerdible! And, also, totally instagrammable! You can choose which route you prefer, and how many days you want to take for the hike. We do recommend joining a group, but you can go as a couple, too.

Serengeti National Park:

The very famous Serengeti National Park is home to one of the natural wonders of Africa- The great Migration. Spend your days viewing wildlife around the vast grassland of the Serengeti. Evenings are quiet and peaceful, where you can enjoy a Sundowner on Christmas and New Years Eve. It is a special feeling to be among the wild, away from the hustle and bustle of the world, in the middle of nowhere. Learn more about Serengeti National Park here

Ngorongoro Crater:

Needless to say, spending Christmas and New Years at the edge of the crater is magical. Imagine waking up to this view!

This crater is also one of the great natural wonders of Africa. Not only do the views take your breath away, but you are also likely to see the Big five here, once you descend. You can choose to camp at the edge of the crater or spoil yourself a little with some luxury at a five-star lodge.

A few more hidden gems in Tanzania are also great to spend Christmas and New years, especially if you don’t want to spend extravagantly. This will come in our next article. Stay tuned! 🙂
